NAS Whiting Field representative praises base partnerships and local economic impact

Randy Roy, speaking for Naval Air Station Whiting Field, told the Milton City Council that the installation is a major training center and an economic engine for the region.
In a presentation to the council, Roy described the base’s training footprint — including helicopter and fixed‑wing training across multiple airfields in Florida and Alabama — and said the installation recently won an installation award that reflects community–base collaboration. He cited a large number of annual operations and discussed the base’s infrastructure responsibilities, including runways, fencing and maintenance. Roy urged continued cooperation, noted intergovernmental support agreements and grant opportunities, and said the base seeks mutually beneficial projects with local governments.
Planning Director Jacob Pollock and CRS coordinator Ethan Brosnan attended and connected Roy’s remarks to local flood‑mitigation and community resilience efforts during the meeting’s related agenda items. Councilmembers thanked Roy and expressed pride in the base’s contributions to the Milton area.
