Community Redevelopment Agency approves $5,000 façade grant for 6767 Berryhill Street

The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) voted unanimously Jan. 22 to approve a $5,000 residential façade grant for the homeowners of 6767 Berryhill Street, authorizing staff to redesignate $3,100 from the commercial façade component to fully fund the request.

Jacob Hullet, the city’s new planning director, told the CRA that the applicants submitted the required photos and three bids and were proposing historically accurate Sherwin‑Williams paint and siding work. "They sent me the correct pictures that were required, the correct, 3 bids that were required, and they're using the correct type of paint from Sherwin Williams, the historically accurate paint," Hullet said.

Staff noted the residential façade allocation had $1,900.40 remaining and recommended transferring $3,100 from the commercial portion of the same line-item family to cover the full $5,000 request. A staff member said the transfer would be a redesignation within the same budget line, not a formal budget amendment: "You're just assigning it to one of the two programs within the line item," staff said.

A council member moved to approve the grant and redesignation; another member seconded, and the motion passed by unanimous vote of the seven members present. Mayor Lindsay thanked staff and the homeowners for their work on the project.

Homeowners Mr. and Mrs. Osden Moore spoke briefly and thanked the council: "Mayor Lindsay, council members, we'd really thank you for, considering our petition for this grant, and, we really appreciate it," they said.

The CRA also approved routine items earlier in the meeting, including minutes from a Nov. 20 meeting and the presented financial reports; both were adopted unanimously. Mayor Lindsay said minutes reflecting the work-session agenda number would be added to the CRA agenda to document the action. The CRA adjourned and prepared to open the next utilities meeting.
