The Signal Mountain Town Council voted Sept. 22 to authorize the chief of police to accept a $25,000 grant from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to help reduce speeding, aggressive driving and other traffic offenses in town.
Town Manager highlighted Chief Williams, Lieutenant Fletcher and Sergeant Marcus Bingham for their roles in applying for the funding and said, “the 3 of them do a lot to, secure this $25,000 grant” and that this is a “great opportunity … to receive $25,000 to go towards reducing speeding, aggressive driving, and other traffic offenses.”
A council member moved to approve the resolution and another seconded; the motion carried with no opposition.
The grant acceptance authorizes the chief of police (or a designee) to receive and administer the funds for traffic-safety efforts. The council did not specify a detailed project plan in the meeting; staff or the police department will provide implementation details outside the meeting record.
