The Tavares City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-03 on March 4 to vacate a 50-foot-wide platted, unimproved right-of-way adjacent to property at 510 Ridge Place.
Planning staff explained the right-of-way is unimproved, undeveloped and has limited practical use as a future thoroughfare. Staff reviewed the petition and found no conflicts for drainage, utilities or public safety. The planning and zoning board considered the petition at its February meeting and recommended approval. Staff also reported that, consistent with local practice, the property appraiser typically divides vacated rights-of-way interests so adjacent owners receive portions consistent with the plat.
Council members asked clarifying questions about which adjacent parcels would receive the property interest and staff confirmed the land would be divided to abutting parcels as shown on the provided maps. The resolution passed on a 5-0 vote.
The action removes the city’s public interest in the specified portion of the plat and authorizes the city to execute the vacation process as presented in the resolution packet.
