BATON ROUGE — The House Committee on Health and Welfare on March 24 reported favorably HB 747, a bill to license medical psychologists by consolidating an existing certificate into a single medical psychologist license and lowering associated fees.
Committee staff read the bill, identified as HB 747 by Rep. Miller and carried in committee by Rep. Turner. Turner said the bill "is a simple bill" that combines two credentials, eliminates the certificate of advanced practice, lowers fees and reduces regulatory red tape.
Support was noted from professional organizations including the Louisiana Academy of Medical Psychologists and representatives from Woman's Hospital. A representative registered for information only and the sponsor asked for favorable passage.
Rep. Turner moved to report the bill favorably; there were no objections and the committee reported HB 747 favorably.
The bill will proceed from committee with the committee-recorded support cards and the committee-adopted posture.
