The Oakland Park Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) used its Dec. 3 meeting to honor volunteers and to approve one business incentive application.
Nessa Herrera, CRA economic development coordinator, highlighted downtown events and partnerships, including a small‑business Saturday that drew more than 2,000 attendees and a "Holiday Village" promotion. The CRA recognized a volunteer team led by Commissioner Tim Lonergan, youth volunteer Kayla Hernandez (250+ hours), business partner FarmShare and Volunteer of the Year Mary Zalasnick (95+ hours).
On business incentives, the CRA considered an application from 221 East Prospect Road LLC (owner Michael Retcher) for reimbursement of exterior improvements including storm‑impact windows and doors, replacement of a pole sign with a monument sign, and landscaping upgrades. Herrera said the total project cost was estimated at about $53,000 and that the applicant requested the program maximum of $20,000 (reimbursement requires a 1:1 match). The CRA approved the application by unanimous vote.
The CRA said the incentive program is reimbursement‑based and requires a minimum private investment threshold for full award eligibility. Staff noted the property owner joined the meeting by Zoom and that the improvements were intended to enhance the downtown character and building resilience.
