The Land and Facilities Management Committee accepted a change order on March 18 that yields a net credit of $258,656.45 and adds 105 calendar days to the South and Central Lafourche High School athletic-field repair contracts.
The district’s project manager reported that Central Lafourche’s field work is complete and South Lafourche remains finished except for power-meter turnover. To avoid interrupting the baseball season, staff recommended granting substantial completion with a punch-list item for the power changeover and extending the contract schedule by 105 days.
Staff explained that FEMA requirements and value engineering altered the scope: press-box requirements FEMA would not allow were removed (a $143,000 deduction) and a permanent concession stand was deleted because FEMA determined the previous structure was a portable building (a $145,000 deduction), partially offset by a $29,700 modular concession add-back. The net effect is a credit of $258,656.45. "So that will close out the project except for…that substantial completion," the project manager said.
A motion to accept the change order (moved by Miss Fabin, seconded by Miss Bourgeois) passed by voice vote.
District staff said the timetable adjustment and the substantial-completion approach are intended to keep facilities available for ongoing athletic seasons while finishing final utility work off-season.
