Commission approves Secret Service MOU for range use, awards pistol-range fence contract and authorizes vehicle surplus

The Collegedale City Commission on Nov. 3 approved multiple public‑safety and procurement items: an MOU allowing the U.S. Secret Service to use the city's pistol range for training, the award of a fence installation contract for the pistol range, and authorization to surplus two older vehicles.
Chief Sapp described the Secret Service request as similar to other interagency agreements the city maintains and said the department had completed the necessary MOU paperwork. The commission approved the MOU so the Secret Service may use the range for upcoming training.
Staff reviewed two bids for the pistol-range fence. The low responsive bid — $45,200 — met specifications and was within this year’s budget; the commission approved the award. Staff also asked to surplus a 2002 Chevrolet (approximately 220,000 miles) and an older work vehicle with a power‑steering issue; the commission approved surplusing both vehicles for auction.
Vote and next steps: The MOU and contract awards were approved by roll call. Staff said they will post notices when outside agencies use the range for training and will proceed with contracting and surplus disposition according to city policy.
