The Collegedale City Commission voted to award the 2026 Freedom Festival fireworks contract to BioTechnico after staff said that company was the only bidder on the solicitation.
"They were the only respondent," city staff said when presenting the solicitation, noting the base bid for the first year was $40,000 and a holiday premium would bring the July 4 show cost to approximately $50,000. Staff also said the city publicly advertised the bid and opened submissions at a posted time.
Commissioners discussed vendor performance and options for a multi‑year arrangement. One commissioner said prior shows had been disappointing in earlier years but improved recently; another cautioned that re‑advertising late in the process could risk having no fireworks for July 4. Staff said the current solicitation included three years of pricing but clarified the commission could consider single‑year awards or options to extend.
After discussion a motion to approve the award was made and seconded; the commission approved the contract on a roll-call vote.
Staff said they will follow up on contract language and the timing/term details before finalizing the award.
