The City Commission adopted amendments to the Oakland Park Comprehensive Plan 2045 on third reading March 25, after staff worked with the Florida Department of Commerce and the Broward County Planning Council to modify two policies found to be more restrictive by state review.
Assistant City Manager Sierra Marrero told the commission that two policies'one using permissive stormwater language and another related to school concurrency fees'were deemed more restrictive under a state law change (Senate Bill 180) that the state made retroactive to ordinances passed on or after Aug. 1, 2024. Marrero said staff collaborated with Broward Planning Council and the Department of Commerce to remove those two provisions and preserve the remainder of the plan.
Staff recommended adoption on third reading and retransmittal to state, regional and county agencies for final certification under section 163.3184 of the Florida Statutes. The commission voted unanimously in favor and authorized the retransmittal and supporting materials.
The action moves the revised Comprehensive Plan back into the state review process with the two policies removed so the broader plan can proceed toward final certification.
