The City of Naples on March 4 accepted a $250,000 cash donation from the Nomminson family to enhance the Loudermilk Park playground.
Community Services Director Chad Merritt told council the donation will match $250,000 already appropriated in the city's 2026 capital program, bringing the project to roughly $500,000 and permitting added safety and user‑friendly features. “They asked if there was a way they could contribute matching funds,” Merritt said. “That allows us to make some enhancements and make the playground a little more usable.”
Merritt said donors requested a modest recognition — the family’s chosen color and a small plaque — and asked to be notified when the equipment will need replacement so they may consider future support. Council members thanked the donors and noted the gift will help finish repairs remaining from Hurricane Ian.
Councilmember Kramer moved to approve the resolution accepting the donation; Councilmember Barton seconded and the motion passed unanimously by voice vote. The council directed staff to include the matching funds and the supplemental appropriation in the contract award that will return to council for final approval.
Next steps: staff will finalize procurement documents and return with a construction contract and appropriation details before work begins.
