City staff: Menomonee Valley underpass project moving forward; bidding could begin this fall

Ryan said his understanding was that a DOT bridge replacement project is planned and the city approved additional funding to raise the bridge to allow an underpass. "That’s my understanding is there's a DOT project to replace the bridge. The city approved the additional funding in order to raise that bridge the necessary level in order to accommodate the crossing to go underneath," he said.
Dave Simpson, on the line for city staff, confirmed the city’s commitment. "The city is committed to that project, along with the state and partnership, and that will be constructed," Simpson said. He added that the county coordination is largely worked out and that the project is in the state environmental review process.
Asked about timing, Simpson said bidding may begin this fall: "They're actually hoping to start with the bidding this fall already." He characterized the construction window as uncertain but estimated the work probably in late 2027 or 2028.
No formal vote or contract award was recorded at the meeting; Simpson framed the timeline as contingent on the environmental review and DOT processes. The council thanked the committee and staff and adjourned the meeting.
