The public works committee approved a staff‑recommended 90‑day trial prohibiting parking on the west side of North 85th Street between Hawthorne Avenue and the boundary near North 85th after staff and residents identified medians and a fire hydrant that already limit parking.
Engineering staff said the 24‑foot street can become impassable for emergency vehicles during events at nearby schools, and that resident correspondence prompted an amended boundary. "We would actually like to amend this to be a trial of no parking from Hawthorne to, I guess we could say, the boundary between 1169 and 177, North 85th Street," the engineering staff said, adding that medians and a hydrant already restrict parking in portions of the corridor.
Staff acknowledged a few residents preferred the east side restriction to allow driveway backing room; the recommendation to limit west‑side parking was based on available off‑street stalls on the west side and a need to preserve emergency access. The committee moved and approved the trial as amended; the clerk recorded the vote as eight‑zero in favor.
