Wauwatosa committee backs letters supporting two state‑funded ADA curb‑ramp projects

The Wauwatosa City public works committee voted unanimously to recommend that the Common Council send letters supporting two Wisconsin Department of Transportation curb‑ramp projects funded through a Transportation Alternatives (TA) set‑aside.
Engineering staff told the committee the DOT, in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, is identifying curb‑ramp projects statewide and is asking municipalities to provide local letters of support. "This program is a 100% state funded state and federal funded, so, there's no cost to see Wauwatosa for any of these projects," the staff member said.
Staff said the program will identify two projects that would be scheduled in 2030 and 2032 and that more detailed information — including who will be letting contracts — will be provided later. Committee members asked whether the projects are new and whether the city would be responsible for performing the work; staff said the projects are stand‑alone ADA improvement projects and that contract‑letting procedures remain to be determined.
The committee moved and approved recommending support and asked staff to forward the measure to the Common Council with a proposed resolution next week. The motion to recommend approval was recorded as moved by Elder Meinl and seconded by Elder Bridal; the clerk reported the measure passed seven‑zero.
