Summary
The Government Affairs Committee approved designating the City Hall Lower Civic Center as an alternate in‑person absentee (early voting) site for April, August and November 2026, citing space constraints in Committee Room 1 and positive feedback on the Lower Civic Center from voters and poll workers. The Wauwatosa Government Affairs Committee voted to designate the City Hall Lower Civic Center as an alternate site for in‑person absentee voting ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
City staff told the committee that in‑person absentee voting has become increasingly popular and now exceeds the capacity of Committee Room 1 and the area outside the city clerk’s office. Staff described positive feedback from voters, poll workers and staff after previous use of the Lower Civic Center for early voting and said the city attorney previously opined that the Lower Civic Center qualifies as an alternate absentee site, which requires governing body approval under state law.
Alder First moved approval and Alder Phillips seconded; the committee voted unanimously to designate the Lower Civic Center as the alternate absentee voting location for the April, August and November 2026 early‑voting periods. Staff said they will移 coordinate logistics and public communications ahead of the April early‑voting period.
