Summary
At its March 18 meeting the Tuscaloosa County Commission unanimously approved numerous routine actions including warrants for $7,985,472.93, condemnation authorizations for three properties, demolition liens and removals, funding requests for school projects and park paving, and an appointment to the Ability Alliance of West Alabama board; several subdivision items were tabled pending Commissioner Reginald Murray's return.
The Tuscaloosa County Commission on March 18, 2026, approved a slate of routine administrative and budgetary items, including the February 2026 warrants totaling $7,985,472.93 and multiple authorizations related to condemnation, demolition and short-term funding for local projects.
Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize County Attorney Robert Spence to commence condemnation proceedings on three properties (11876 Ben Clements Rd., 4004 23rd St. NE, and 65 Coke Ave NE) and tabled condemnation proceedings for 3849 Mill Creek Ln. and other items until Commissioner Reginald Murray could participate. The commission adopted resolutions to demolish nuisance properties in Districts I and II (including 13620 Pine Hill Rd., 9 Bealle Cir., and 22371 Eastern Valley Rd.) and fixed demolition costs and filed liens on three parcels: 2515 Main St. NE (lien $5,348.60), 16482 Highway 11 N. (lien $6,188.26), and 23 Stevenson Dr. (lien $4,911.20). One demolition item (14781 Reed Creek Ln.) was noted as having the structure already torn down, but the parcel remains problematic and the demolition action was tabled pending Commissioner Murray's return.
The commission approved a revised County Purchasing Policy and several funding requests: $5,000 from the District I Community Development fund to the Tuscaloosa County School System to replace irrigation at the Tuscaloosa County High School practice field; $5,000 from the same fund for sleds at the Northside High School practice facility; $145,569 from the District II paving budget for paving work within Tannehill Historical Park (Jefferson County to pay its portion); and $16,000 to the Duncanville Volunteer Fire Department for a storage building (motion requested by absent Commissioner Mark C. Nelson). April Hoffman, chief financial officer, presented the warrants; motions to approve these items were moved and seconded primarily by Commissioners Stan Acker and Jerry Tingle and carried unanimously.
During public comment, Tricia Willmon asked the commission for assistance to install lighting at Abernant Ballpark; the commission said it will review the park's progress to determine possible assistance. Several residents—Gina Penner, Cynthia Burnett, Waymon Oliver, and Jennifer and Jonathan Eaton—spoke in opposition to the proposed Waldrop Subdivision; because Commissioner Reginald Murray was absent the commission tabled the subdivision item until the next meeting and entered the speakers' opposition into the record. Stephanie Belton raised a nuisance at 1702 40th Ave. NE; Judge Robertson referred the matter to Brent Lollar of the Solid Waste Department for review.
Following an executive session, the commission reconvened and then appointed Mr. David Bennet Jr. to the Ability Alliance of West Alabama Board. With no further business the commission adjourned to its next scheduled meeting on April 1, 2026.
