Representative Garcia moved for adoption of the resolution and Representative Muraoka seconded. In remarks supporting the measure, Garcia praised Tuine’s local voice and outreach, saying, “Let me be clear right from the start, that this resolution is no joke.” Garcia noted Tuine’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic in using social media and performances to reconnect residents with local culture and cited his partnership with the Hawaii Department of Health and Teen Link Hawaii to promote youth wellness.
The motion was carried by voice vote. After the vote, the House recessed so members could meet and congratulate the honoree and present the certificate.
The resolution was offered by Representatives Garcia and Muraoka and recognizes Tuine’s contributions to youth outreach and for representing Hawaiian culture through his work.
