Scotland selectmen approve minutes, tax refunds and STEAP application; receive town-hall and public-safety updates

The Scotland Board of Selectmen convened Jan. 22 at the Scotland Volunteer Community Hall and dealt with routine business, including approval of prior meeting minutes, several tax refunds and the board’s decision to apply for a $500,000 STEAP grant.
Selectman Mike Gurnack moved to approve the Dec. 11, 2024 special and regular meeting minutes and the Jan. 8, 2025 special meeting minutes; the motion was seconded by First Selectman Dana Barrow Jr. and carried. Treasurer David Zito presented the treasurer’s report. The board also approved tax refunds to Bridgette and John Norell for $109.48 and $107.70, respectively, and to Toyota Lease Trust for $753.57 following a motion by Gurnack and a second by Barrow.
The First Selectman provided an extended report that included updates on the Town Hall renovation project (final construction drawings expected by the end of January, state review ahead of bidding), road-safety signage awaiting DOT installation, a planned additional camera outside Town Hall, and public-works reminders about snow removal and sand pickup logistics. The board noted the resignation of Gary Greenberg from the Town Hall Renovation Committee, thanked him for his service and elected Terry Delaney as the committee’s new chair; the board said it will recruit a 'Clerk of the Works' to assume some responsibilities.
Other items included a notice that town officials will attend regional meetings (NECCOG, COST), an announcement of a virtual public information meeting on Jan. 23 for the Gager Hill Bridge (construction currently projected in 2027), and an update that the Fire Department obtained federal grants that offset costs for air packs, radios, training and volunteer incentives; the First Selectman stated the department responded to every call in 2024. Dana Barrow Jr. also said the town needs a Republican registrar of voters and asked interested residents to contact Chris Reddy; he thanked Jolene Bowers for agreeing to serve as Democratic registrar.
