Committee reports SB 291 to modernize architecture licensing statutes
Summary

The Senate Committee on Commerce on March 18 reported SB 291 with amendments after members considered a set of changes meant to modernize and clarify the state’s architectural licensing law.
Senator Abraham said the bill clarifies what falls under the practice of architecture, strengthens regulatory authority for the Louisiana State Board of Architectural Examiners and aligns standards with current industry practice. Amendment set 860 restores the original statutory definition of "practice of architecture" in the bill text and contains mostly technical changes.
Kathleen Gordon of AIA Louisiana told the committee the measure is a cleanup and modernization that brings statutory language and licensing pathways up to date; she described the bill as non‑controversial.
With supporting green cards and informational white cards from board members, the committee adopted the amendments and reported SB 291 with amendments. The committee adjourned after the final item.
