Mattawan board approves $5.997 million campus traffic GMP, awards tech and AV contracts

The Mattawan Consolidated School Board voted Feb. 9 to approve several budget and contract items, including a $5,997,051 guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for campus traffic improvements and multiple technology and audiovisual purchases funded by the district's 2024 bond. President Shari Magrath presided; five members voted in favor and two were recorded absent.
The board adopted the 2025–2026 General Fund Budget Amendment by roll-call vote with members Marika Hawes-Ruhrup, Onur Arugaslan, Vickie Mabin-Herzberg, Mark Noffsinger and Shari Magrath recorded as voting in favor. The minutes state the motion was supported by Trustee Onur Arugaslan; no opposing votes were recorded.
On facilities, the board approved AVB's GMP to complete Bid Pack 1B — Campus Traffic Improvement — totaling $5,997,051. Trustee Mark Noffsinger moved the motion, and Trustee Onur Arugaslan supported it; the motion passed by roll call.
Several contracts tied to the district's 2024 bond were also approved. The board awarded a contract to People Driven Technologies to upgrade the district firewall for $52,752.12 and a separate contract to the same vendor for UPS replacements totaling $73,279.08. The board approved awarding projector replacements to REMCSAVE at $494,247; that motion is recorded as moved by Ted Roethesberger and supported by Onur Arugaslan, and it passed.
The consent agenda, approved at the start of the meeting, included the Secretary's Report, financial items and personnel hires: Annalise Newton (Y5 paraprofessional), Allison Boven (middle school special education paraprofessional) and Ken Mohney (high school instructional support specialist). The motion to approve the consent agenda was moved by Marika Hawes-Ruhrup and supported by Vickie Mabin-Herzberg.
The board also cast its vote in the 2026 Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) Board of Directors election for TiAnna Harrison as the Region 6 representative.
During the superintendent's report, Randy Fleenor said the high school will present Grease next week, noted a sixth-grade band concert, and listed four schools nominated for the CKH National Showcase (MS, LES, EES and ECEC). Patty Anstatt is recorded as making a public comment; the minutes do not provide the substance of the comment.
The board adjourned at 7:26 p.m. following a motion by Vickie Mabin-Herzberg, supported by Mark Noffsinger. Ayes: 5; Absent: 2 (Ted Roethesberger and Rick George).
