Board hears finance update and preview of proposed $300K–$350K Chromebook refresh

During the Feb. 9 meeting, Director Earl briefed the board on district communications about payroll statements and outlined state and federal budget developments. She said Governor Whitmer will present the FY27 state budget on Feb. 11 and that the board’s Finance Committee will receive a summary on March 2.
Earl also previewed a proposed high school Chromebook refresh the district plans to present at the March 9 board meeting. The refresh was estimated in the meeting materials at $300,000–$350,000 and would be part of a districtwide device refresh cycle proposed to stagger costs over time. Final funding sources and an exact total were not presented during the Feb. 9 motion and will be part of the March finance agenda.
At the federal level, Earl noted that Congress approved the FY26 budget with level or increased funding for Title I, IDEA, CTE, and Adult Education; the district will monitor state and federal allocations as it finalizes FY26 revisions for debt retirement, food service and student services.
Next steps: the Finance Committee will consider the FY27 budget summary on March 2 and the full board will review the Chromebook refresh request and final FY26 budget revisions at the March 9 meeting.
