Mills County to buy election-management software to replace manual tracking

Katie Dodge, Mills County’s election deputy, asked the Board of Supervisors to approve purchase of a modular election-management and workflow system to replace manual Excel tracking. Dodge said the software would streamline task assignment, polling-location management, training quizzes and equipment inventories and allow multiple staff to work in the system simultaneously rather than relying on a single Excel tracker.
Dodge presented pricing as an annual subscription of $3,746 and an initial startup cost of $6,500; the vendor offered a $2,000 investment into the county, and the board recorded the first-year cost in discussion as $8,246. She asked the board to budget the expense in the next fiscal year so implementation could be completed before the general election; the system will not be available for the impending primary.
A supervisor moved to approve the contract with Modus (parent company InTech) for the budgeted amount next fiscal year; the motion was seconded and carried without additional discussion. County staff will schedule implementation steps and include the cost in next year’s budget. Dodge said the move should reduce manual overtime and improve election-day readiness.
