County officials told the Cheshire County Commission on March 19 that a renegotiated intergovernmental agreement (IGA) on housing and transport rates has been approved and will take effect May 1.
Doug reported the agreement “went well and it was approved and will be effective May 1.” He said the change should generate about $250,000 a year in additional revenue. Doug detailed the rate structure: “$120 a day for housing and $40 an hour for transport officer time,” and noted two-officer transports would be compensated at double the one-officer rate.
Commissioners discussed the market context for the new rates and the three-year minimum term in the agreement; several members said the county should review rates more often than in the past. Chair and other commissioners praised staff for negotiating an update after years without change.
The chair also notified the commission that the sheriff’s deputies and dispatch union ratified their contract; the chair said the vote among those present was unanimous. Commissioners noted the ratification will be folded into the budget discussions and reminded staff to await formal ratification procedures before publicly announcing specific pay increases.
Next steps: the IGA takes effect May 1; staff will include the ratified dispatch agreement and the updated revenue estimate in the upcoming budget materials.
