Erie County Commissioners met March 26 at the Services Center and approved a series of consent-agenda items, canceled multiple planned April commission meetings and received a financial update from County Administrator Hank Solowiej.
Solowiej told the board that April preliminary sales-tax collections were projected at $1.431 million, compared with $1.425 million a year earlier, and that year-to-date collections totaled $6.9 million versus $6.6 million last year, an approximately 4% increase.
On motions moved by Mr. Shoffner and seconded by Mr. Old the board canceled commission meetings scheduled across April (specific canceled dates were read into the record) and adopted resolutions: authorizing payment for Then-and-Now services and supplies to Precision Body & Frame pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 5705.41(d)(1); entering into a service agreement with Summit Fire & Security, LLC to repair a deficiency in the kitchen fire-suppression system at The Meadows at Osborn Park; and executing payment of Then-and-Now certifications presented by the County Auditor (all roll-call votes were recorded as all aye).
The board approved a revised Auditor’s Certificate adding $75,000 for Mobile Solids Solutions to complete sludge digester cleanout work at the Huron Basin Wastewater Treatment Plant and approved Pay Estimate No. 6 to The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. in the amount of $709.35 for the Campbell Street resurfacing and sidewalk project. Capital equipment purchases approved included a Vermeer D24 horizontal directional drill ($405,000), a Ford F600 4x4 service truck ($237,071), and a 2026 Chevrolet 2500 for Facilities ($56,268).
Travel and personnel actions were also approved: travel for Lauren Hall and Angela Ward (Prosecutor’s Office/Victims Assistance) to attend training in Columbus on May 18–19 (estimated $150 each), AJ Lill (ECDJFS) to attend a PCSAO Board meeting in Columbus on April 1 at no cost, and County in-person child-care training for three ECDJFS employees on May 12 at no cost. Personnel changes included longevity pay for Dog Warden Barb Knapp effective April 1; STNA rate increases and hires at The Meadows at Osborn Park; and staff resignations with the effective dates recorded in the personnel forms.
The board received minutes and financial reports from the Erie-Ottawa International Airport Authority, recessed into executive session under Ohio Revised Code to consider pending litigation with Assistant Prosecutor Gerhard Gross, reconvened, and adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
