Rio Rancho board honors founding superintendent Dr. Visek Cleveland with unanimous resolution as she retires

Marilyn Galbraith, president of the Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education, read and moved approval of Resolution 25‑012 on March 23, recognizing Dr. Visek Cleveland for more than three decades leading the district she helped establish. The board approved the resolution by voice vote.
Kim Vesely, a longtime district employee, read the resolution aloud, noting Cleveland’s selection as the district’s first superintendent in 1994 and the growth of Rio Rancho Public Schools from five elementary and two middle schools to the district’s current set of campuses and programs. The resolution cites Cleveland’s awards and statewide leadership roles and thanked her for fostering partnerships with local government and business.
Dr. Cleveland, who has served as superintendent for 32 years, thanked board members, staff and the community and noted the teamwork behind the district’s growth. She acknowledged former board members and staff in the audience and described this week’s tree‑planting ceremony honoring her service. “It has been an amazing opportunity and a real honor to work with all of you,” she said.
The board also received a flag and certificate from Annie Quintana on behalf of U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich’s office and presented flowers and a public reception following the meeting. The resolution and the ceremony will be filed in the district’s records and shared with the community as the district begins transition planning for leadership and ongoing operations.
