Residents raise sewage drainage, road closure and nuisance property concerns during Tuscaloosa County Commission public comment

At the Feb. 18 Tuscaloosa County Commission meeting, several residents used the public comment period to press the commission on local infrastructure and nuisance concerns.

Julia Sanders of 3808 21st St. NE told commissioners about an ongoing sewage drainage issue and provided her contact information to County Administrator Byron Waid for follow-up. Raymond Cook addressed the commission about a road closure on Arbor Way Circle and 18th Ave; commissioners said the closure resulted from traffic volume and speeding and that the temporary barricade will either be replaced with a permanent structure or reconfigured as a cul-de-sac. Residents Mr. Crawford and Jim Colby raised complaints about a nuisance property on Highway 11; Colby added that vehicles parked close to the road create a safety hazard.

Commissioners acknowledged the comments and recorded staff follow-up: the County Administrator received contact details for the sewage complaint, and the commission referenced ongoing traffic-safety work related to the Arbor Way Circle closure. Several of the property-specific complaints tie to later agenda items in which the commission adopted demolition resolutions and authorized condemnation proceedings for other parcels.

The commission moved on to executive session and subsequent action items after public comment; minutes do not record detailed staff responses or timelines for remediation of the specific complaints raised in public comment.
