Laketown schedules public hearings on adopting the Wildland-Urban Interface code
Summary
At the March 4 meeting the council heard a presentation on a proposed adoption of the 2006 Utah Wildland-Urban Interface Code and a draft town interface map; the council requested map revisions and scheduled P&Z and council public hearings in April before any ordinance adoption.
Travis Hobbs presented a wildfire-risk map and recommended Laketown adopt the 2006 Utah Wildland-Urban Interface Code along with a town-specific interface map.
Hobbs showed high-risk zones based on structure-exposure scores and said the map is adjustable to reflect council preferences. Council members asked how the ordinance would affect new construction and insurance; Hobbs noted those consequences are typical questions and offered to revise the map to reflect the council’s boundary recommendations. Mayor Willis said the town will hold a Planning & Zoning public hearing first and then a Town Council public hearing at the April meeting as required before adopting Ordinance 2026-01.
What’s next: P&Z will hold a public hearing and return recommendations; the council scheduled its public hearing for the April regular meeting and placed the ordinance (Ordinance 2026-01) as an action item for that meeting.
