Commissioners decline public-water funding for private subdivision under current waterfront policy

The Bradley County Commission voted to decline a request to apply waterfront matching funds to a privately confined water line serving two additional homes created by a family subdivision.

Commissioner Gilbert and other commissioners questioned whether the request fits the policy, which the commission said is not intended to replace developer financing for waterline construction in newly platted subdivisions.
Commissioner Gilbert asked whether approving the request could create precedent or open the county to future requests in similar situations. Chair and staff said past projects sometimes expanded beyond initial expectations and commissioners must be cautious about funding requests that do not add public mileage to the water system. After discussion the commission declined the request, with members saying the request, as written, does not meet the waterfront policy requirements.
The chair thanked Lori for bringing the matter forward and confirmed the decision. The item was identified as HCI-funded in the agenda packet, not ARP. The commission moved on to scheduling budget hearings after recording the outcome.
