Katrina Thompson was sworn in as mayor of the Village of Broadview during the board’s May 5 meeting, reaffirming her commitment to what she described as “momentum and mastery” for the community.
The oath and ceremonial remarks took place early in the meeting after the board moved the swearing-in to the top of the agenda. Several trustees also took their oaths: Patricia Chow Malave, Judy Rose Abraham and Lakisha Wimper were administered the oath by county officials and then seated.
Thompson, speaking after her oath, said the term would focus on “affordable housing, green infrastructure, public safety, educational partnerships, and economic equity.” She called the new term “a season defined by momentum and majesty” and thanked campaign supporters, family members and local clergy.
Trustees offered brief remarks at the dais. Lakisha Wimper thanked family and campaign contributors and said she was “very proud” to serve; Patricia Chow Malave described herself as “honored and humbled” to begin a second term. Judy Rose Abraham, a lifelong resident who cited decades in the community, thanked voters for the opportunity to serve.
The swearing-in was followed by short ceremonial acknowledgments that included visiting mayors and school board members. The board then resumed regular business.
