Altoona council adopts consent agenda including pay apps, rate increases and event permit

The Altoona City Council approved a multi-item consent agenda June 2 that included several construction pay applications, rate adjustments and administrative items.

Council called out pay applications on the consent agenda: Pay App #4 to On Track Construction for SE sanitary sewer extension Phase 1 for $380,147.25; Pay App #13 to Alliance Construction for 8th Street SE widening for $142,888.21; Pay App #4 to Des Moines Dirt Worx for Prairie Heritage Civic Center plaza pond improvements for $69,631.92; and Pay App #5 to JAS Concrete for Ironwood Park pickleball courts for $2,000.00. The agenda also included resolutions to increase solid waste and recycling collection rates, approvals to perform two appraisals of city-owned parcels, year-end fund transfers, an amendment to McClure Engineering for additional right-of-way plats, and a payment to Naturion West for Army Corps streambank restoration tied to the Muchikinock Creek Sewer Project. A public hearing on State Revolving Fund financing for water system improvements was set for July 7, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.

The council approved a Special Class C permit for a Farmers Market event titled 'Gettin’ Slushed South of 35' (roll call 4-0). Department heads delivered brief updates across police, fire, public works, engineering, community development, economic development, HR, IT and finance. Mayor Dean O'Connor noted Metro Waste Authority will place lithium-battery-disposal boxes in city halls. The council adjourned at 6:50 p.m. following the reported business.
