Mayor Todd Gloria and the San Diego City Council recognized 10 community leaders as the city’s 2025 Women of Distinction and celebrated the career of long‑time city advisor Steven Hill.
Gloria introduced Katie McDonald as the citywide Woman of Distinction and described her leadership of Forever Balboa Park and prior roles with the San Diego Symphony and museum institutions. “Your love for our city has made San Diego a better place for everyone,” Gloria said in announcing McDonald’s selection.
Council members then presented district honorees: Cori Austin (District 1), Shelly Parks (District 2), Sharon Gale (District 3), Emilia Castillo (District 4), Cara Mangiduyoz (District 5), Rosalia Schifo (District 6), District‑7 honoree Heidi Ramirez, Claudia Savelza (District 8), Monica Hill (District 9), and the citywide honoree McDonald. Each council member summarized the recipient’s community work and contributions.
The council also took time to recognize Steven Hill, who announced his retirement after 36 years of public service. Mayor Gloria said Hill “left this city…better because of your service,” and Hill thanked colleagues for the surprise recognition.
Council moved and approved proclamations for Women’s History Month, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and Stephen Hill Day; the action passed on the consent motion recorded by the clerk. Following the ceremony the council resumed its regular agenda.
The event was ceremonial; no regulatory actions were taken during the presentations beyond the proclamations vote.
The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for March 24, 2025.
