Chesnee City officials confirmed plans for the Labor Day Festival, slated for Aug. 30 through Sept. 1 in CADA Park, and discussed operational logistics including restroom capacity and traffic staffing.
City Administrator Delisa Coggins reported the festival will again be held in CADA Park with partners Operation Grow Spartanburg and CADA. She said the city has placed a new billboard on Highway 221 by I-85 to advertise the event and that planned attractions include live music, vendors, free rides and the bay area set with tables and chairs for dining.
During the workshop portion of the meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Lauren Dove said she was pleased the city secured two Chesnee officers to handle school traffic at Chesnee High School and a Chesnee officer to direct traffic at Chesnee Elementary School, ensuring officers will be stationed in town rather than commuting to Boiling Springs for school traffic duties.
Councilwoman Vertie Crawford raised concerns about restroom capacity and whether porta-johns would be needed. After reviewing last year's porta-john count, the council decided to proceed this year without renting porta-johns and to monitor turnout and needs during the festival.
What happens next: staff will continue festival preparations and monitor attendance and facilities needs during the event; any additional logistics decisions will be made by staff and city leadership as required.
