The Chesnee City Council on Nov. 10 voted to pay monthly insurance for municipal Judge McMillan and adopted a proclamation naming Nov. 20, 2025, World Pancreatic Cancer Day.
Mayor Pro Tem Lauren Dove moved to approve payment of $287.84 per month toward the judge’s insurance; Councilwoman Vertie Crawford seconded. The motion carried 4–1, with Councilwoman Monica Skipper recorded as opposed. City Administrator Delisa Coggins had raised the insurance item during the council’s workshop and noted the judge is on call for the city throughout the month.
The proclamation for World Pancreatic Cancer Day was introduced by Councilwoman Vertie Crawford and seconded by Councilwoman Monica Skipper; the council approved it unanimously. Mayor Bruce Mahaffey also presented a volunteer award to Laura Cothran for her service to the city.
The council approved the October 2025 minutes and set several operational items: City Hall will be closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day, and Christmas decorations are scheduled to be installed beginning Nov. 12 as staff shared the 'Christmas in Chesnee' schedule. Administrator Coggins reported that fall decorations have been removed.
On planning and zoning, Administrator Coggins said the city’s ordinances remain with the legal department for codification through Civic Plus, and that zoning maps are pending while the council awaits action from ACOG (the meeting record does not define that acronym). She also reported City Clerk Treasurer Amanda Killian has become a local business owner; the clerk position was posted with MASC, three interviews were held and a new employee is scheduled to start Nov. 17.
Other workshop items discussed included sidewalk repair work orders for N Alabama Ave and elsewhere in town, a request from Councilwoman Vertie Crawford for follow-up on the Boy Scout Hut (Coggins and Mayor Pro Tem Dove said they had offered to meet but had received no response), an inquiry about restroom stall pricing, and a potential parking project for a corner lot pending engineering review. Coggins also said the alleyway next to Dr. Henderson’s office will require Dr. Henderson to file in Circuit Court to resolve the matter.
Newly elected officials are scheduled to be sworn in before the council on Dec. 8, 2025. Mayor Bruce Mahaffey moved to adjourn at the close of the meeting and the council recorded unanimous assent.
