The Tennessee Senate read a resolution honoring guitarist Steve Cropper, heard remarks from his wife Angel Cropper, and hosted Murray County's Mule Day guests and the 2026 Mule Day Queen, Ava Sykes.
The Tennessee Senate paused routine business to honor the late Steve Cropper and to welcome guests from Murray County for Mule Day.
Leader Ackberry asked the clerk to read Senate Joint Resolution 581 recognizing Cropper’s role in shaping the Memphis sound and his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The resolution was presented to Cropper’s family in the well, and Angel Cropper thanked the Senate for the tribute and for honoring her husband's contributions to music and to Tennessee.
"Steve was a true Tennessean and he loved everything about Tennessee," Angel Cropper said, expressing gratitude on behalf of the family.
Chairman Hensley introduced Murray County's Mule Day delegation and the 2026 Mule Day Queen, Ava Sykes. Sykes, who identified herself on the floor, described Mule Day as a long‑running community tradition of wagons, mule pulling, music and local vendors, and invited members to Columbia for the April festivities.
The Senate took a photo in the well and continued into its legislative calendar after the recognitions.
