Collegedale commissioners voted unanimously Feb. 17 to authorize renaming a former segment of Appisson Pike that was cut off by recent construction, selecting Founders Way as the first choice and McKee Overlook and Innovation Drive as alternates.
The measure, introduced as Resolution 563 and read aloud by the city recorder, gives staff authority to submit the city’s prioritized list to Hamilton County 911, which the city manager and staff said must approve street names to avoid conflicts with existing addresses and emergency dispatch records.
City staff told commissioners that the segment has no addresses along it and that duplicate names or similar suffixes (drive, lane, plaza) can be a disqualifier under county rules. The city manager recommended the commission provide two or three alternate names ranked by preference to speed the county review; commissioners discussed potential duplication with existing Founders Way downtown and agreed to include backups.
Commissioners debated options and agreed to submit Founders Way as the first choice, McKee Overlook as the second and Innovation Drive as the third. The commission then moved and adopted the resolution by roll-call vote. Staff noted that if Hamilton County 911 rejects the submitted names, the commission will return with new options.
Next steps: city staff will formally submit the prioritized names to Hamilton County 911 for its review and report back to the commission once the county has acted.
