Council approves proclamation, claims list and festival contracts; meeting continued to executive session

At the March 17 council meeting the council approved a series of consent and agenda items including a proclamation, claims list and several festival contracts.
The council approved a proclamation declaring April 2026 as autism awareness/acceptance month after a motion, second and roll‑call votes.
On routine business the council approved the claims list. The Miami Police Department’s request to transfer certain legacy firearms to surplus was approved; the council later approved the subsequent trade/purchase authorization for new pistols (see separate article).
The council also approved Route 66 Heritage Festival contracts on the consent agenda, including a $500 contract with entertainer Trenton Tanner, a $2,000 contract with Bobby Dagonia, a $1,750 contract with Jake Taylor and a $60,000 contract with Chris Lane. Votes were recorded by roll call for these consent items.
After completing consent and regular agenda items, the chair announced the meeting would be continued to reconvene this afternoon for the purpose of an executive session.
Next steps: festival contracts will be executed by staff and the public portion of the meeting will reconvene later for the executive session.
