Council confirms appointments to Industrial Authority and Library Board, mayor discloses family connection

At its Nov. 18 meeting the Miami City Council approved several board nominations and recorded a familial disclosure by the mayor.
The council reappointed Kevin Dunkel to the Miami Industrial Public Facilities Authority for a term expiring Nov. 7, 2029. The council then moved to appoint Scott Horner to the Miami Public Library Board to replace Christina Ollry (term to expire 11/21/26). Mayor (speaker 1) disclosed on the record that Horner is his father-in-law and said Tyler had told him before making the nomination; the mayor also described Horner as well qualified.
Councilmembers asked whether the mayor needed to abstain; the council confirmed he did not and proceeded with the vote. The reappointment and the Horner appointment were approved.
The council also appointed Amber Atkinson to the Miami Public Library Board with a term expiring 11/18/28. One councilmember recorded an abstention on Atkinson’s appointment; the motion otherwise passed.
