The Miami City Council on Nov. 18 approved repeal of several antiquated ordinance sections that reference jury qualifications and related fee provisions the city does not use.
A staff presenter told the council that because the city does not conduct jury trials, retaining those sections in the municipal code is unnecessary and can complicate adoption of a consolidated fee ordinance. The presenter said the repeal is part of a broader cleanup to remove outdated provisions.
Councilmembers discussed the package and voted separately on ordinances 2025-13, 2025-14 and 2025-15; each ordinance passed. The council did not debate substantive jury procedures—rather, the discussion focused on housekeeping and enabling a revised fee ordinance to be implemented next year.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the code updates and incorporate the changes as the city finalizes its fee ordinance.
