Miami will host the 2026 Summer Mayors Conference after city officials learned on Jan. 20 that mayors from across the state voted to select the city from five finalists.
The Chair (voice S1) told the council Miami was one of five finalists and that mayors voted to pick Miami over Edmond, Keenan, South Wall and Alvin. The Chair said the event will draw about 100 mayors from around the state and that sponsorships and grants had been identified to help pay for the conference.
The Chair framed the selection as a favorable opportunity to showcase the city and anticipated the conference would bring visiting officials and spouses to Miami. No formal vote was required; the announcement was delivered during mayor and council committee announcements.
Next steps City staff said sponsorships and grant support will be used to offset costs; staff will continue preparing logistics for hosting the conference.
