Creekside Junior High presents AVID progress, reports measurable gains in college‑readiness lesson

Nicole Dobbs, the AVID elective teacher, outlined in‑class practices such as tutorials, organizational routines and Wicker Wednesdays. Counselor Stacy Ortega presented pre/post survey results from a Tier‑1 lesson called "Scribe to Success": prior to the lesson, 41.4% of students knew there were 23 universities in California; after the lesson, 79.9% did. Ortega also reported that students who "strongly agreed" that A‑G courses prepare them for college rose from 18% to 48.8% after the lesson.
Principal Lawrence framed AVID as a strategy to close the achievement gap by preparing students for college readi‑ness and described plans for tutorials, college trips and a third annual college and career fair planned for May.
What happens next: Creekside said it will continue expanding AVID practices across tiers and will invite board members to the May college and career fair.
