New Calexico City Manager Benjamin Martinez thanks community, pledges collaboration with schools

Benjamin Martinez, Calexico’s recently appointed city manager, told the school board he has been in the job about seven weeks and has already managed multiple storms, and he thanked trustees and district staff for the invitation and their welcome.
Martinez said he previously served as city manager in National City and described experience with a major storm there in January 2024. "I've been here about 7 weeks, and I've had 2 major storms happen," he said, adding that his priority is to bring stability to city staff and to work in partnership with nearby agencies and the district.
Board members welcomed Martinez and said they look forward to collaborating on shared priorities for students and families. Several board members noted the close relationship between city and district services and urged patience as the city addresses staffing and recovery from recent weather events. Martinez said he will be living in Calexico and emphasized the need to set clear priorities so the city can deliver results.
The introduction was brief; Martinez thanked trustees again, said he would "be in touch," and left to attend to city duties.
