Miss Mary Ellen Grande read a resolution honoring Dr. Margaret Dunham Hill, recounting her career as a teacher, principal and board member and recognizing her community service; the board proclaimed Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 as "All About the Children Day" in her memory. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved and seconded and the board voted to carry it.
Trustee Santos read a second resolution recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day (observed nationally on the third Monday in January) and encouraged students, staff and community members to honor Dr. King’s legacy through acts of service. That resolution was also moved, seconded and approved by the board.
Why it matters Ceremonial proclamations are a formal way the board recognizes community leaders and national observances and signals the district’s intent to encourage school-based observances and community service tied to the proclamations.
Both resolutions were adopted by roll-call votes during the meeting.
