Maplewood council approves appointments, accepts donations and holds closed security briefing

At its Jan. 12 meeting the Maplewood City Council handled several routine items and approved a closed-session security briefing.
The council approved the 2026 City Council appointments to boards, commissions and liaison assignments after a motion moved by Councilmember Lee and seconded by Councilmember Juniman.
Chief Mondor presented two resolutions accepting donations to the public safety department: Merit Chevrolet’s $1,000 contribution for employee recognition and wellness, and Schmel's Countryside’s $3,000 donation for similar purposes. The council approved both resolutions by voice vote.
Later in the meeting staff recommended, and the council adopted, a motion to close the regular meeting to receive a security briefing and review emergency response procedures, citing Minnesota Statute 13D.05 subdivision 3(d); the council left the open session for closed session and later returned to open session, reporting they had discussed emergency response procedures.
With no other business, Mayor Abrams adjourned the meeting.
