Maplewood swears in two new police sergeants

The Maplewood City Council workshop began with a swearing‑in ceremony for two promotions within Maplewood Public Safety.
Chief Bearden (identified in the workshop) opened the ceremony and described the role of sergeants as frontline supervisors who "set the tone" for the department. At the council dais, the promoted officers recited the oath of office and were pinned: Officer Connor Salcho was sworn in as Sergeant Connor Salcho and Officer Nicholas Leonard was sworn in as Sergeant Nicholas Leonard.
Both officers spoke briefly after taking the oath. Salcho thanked his supervisors, family and girlfriend for their support and said he sees the promotion as "an opportunity to invest in others and to have an impact on the performance, development and the future of my peers and officers," (he said). Leonard similarly thanked the mayor, council, city administration, Chief Bearden and his family and said he looked forward to "continuing to serve the city of Maplewood in this new role."
The mayor and council congratulated both officers and the meeting then moved on to the YMCA discussion.
