Board celebrates employees of the year, athletes and PTA volunteer contributions

The presentation named many PTA presidents and called out site-level volunteer efforts.
The board also honored multiple employees of the year. Highlights included: • Janet Soohoo — student support employee of the year, recognized for special-education support and close coordination with families and staff. • Greg Lindsey — CDC teacher of the year, celebrated for classroom leadership and student engagement. • Janet Robbins — classified employee of the year, recognized for long service and dedication at Washington Elementary. • Nick Sklaranko — RBUSD teacher of the year, lauded by colleagues for mentoring, AP support and extracurricular leadership. • Laura Franco Gallardo — RBUSD administrator of the year; praised for facilities leadership as director of maintenance and operations. • Annette Alpern — RBUSD administrator of the year and a region/state-recognized business services administrator, noted for leadership and operational results.
Recipients and colleagues spoke briefly, thanking the board, families, and colleagues. Superintendent Wesley and board members emphasized the district’s reliance on volunteers, teachers and staff to support student achievement.
No formal board action was required for recognitions; the PTA’s dollar and hour totals were presented as ceremonial figures to acknowledge volunteer contributions.
