Paramount Unified honors outgoing board president Eddie Cruz and elects new officers

The Paramount Unified School District Board of Education honored outgoing board president Eddie Cruz on Dec. 18, receiving certificates and remarks from local and regional officials before moving on to elections and routine business.
Multiple visitors presented recognition items on behalf of federal, state and local offices. Patricia Camacho from Congresswoman Nanette Barragán’s office read a congressional certificate praising Cruz’s “steadfast leadership” for the district. Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn told the board she appreciated Cruz’s service and noted that “Paramount passed Measure Q, which will bring a $190,000,000 in repairs and improvements to your schools,” underscoring voter support for the district’s facilities plan.
The board then administered oaths. Supervisor Hahn administered the oath to Diane Martinez (trustee area 2) and later to Eddie Cruz (trustee area 3) as part of the ceremonial recognitions.
During the election of officers, the board moved to nominate and elect officers for the coming term. Alicia Anderson was nominated for and elected board president; the nomination and vote passed unanimously (5–0). Sonia De Leon was elected vice president by unanimous roll call, and the board approved Dr. Lytle as secretary. The board also filled representative slots to county and statewide school organizations and established committee assignments; each motion recorded a unanimous vote.
Board members and guests praised the district’s collaborative work across city and county partners, and several speakers called out recent partnerships and community events that they said supported student success.
The board recessed briefly after a choral performance by the Paramount High School choir. The meeting later resumed for public comment and business items.
The board set its next regular meeting for Jan. 15, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. The newly elected officers will assume duties as the board continues work on policy and budget items.
