Colorado Senate adopts resolution reaffirming sister-state ties with Taiwan

The Colorado Senate on April 6 adopted Senate Joint Resolution 19, a measure celebrating the state's sister-state relationship with Taiwan and endorsing deeper economic and educational ties. The resolution was read at length and adopted by voice vote, recorded as 35 ayes, 0 no.
Senator Frazelle introduced the resolution and asked the chamber to welcome Director General Debbie Huang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Denver and consular staff. "Members, today we are celebrating the longtime partnership between the state of Colorado and Taiwan," the senator said, noting 43 years of cooperation and the importance of trade and technology links to Colorado agriculture and high-tech industries.
The resolution cites a memorandum of understanding signed Feb. 3, 2026 between Governor Jared Polis and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office that, the text says, aims to foster cooperation on emerging technologies including quantum photonics, precision agriculture and semiconductors. It also references bilateral trade figures and recent agricultural letters of intent between U.S. and Taiwanese buyers.
The measure directs that copies of the joint resolution be sent to Taiwanese and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office officials. The sponsor requested the current roll call be added as cosponsors; that request was approved without objection. The resolution was adopted and placed into the Senate’s records.
Procedurally, the Senate proceeded out of order to consider resolutions and then returned to the calendar to continue consideration of bills.
