The council approved the sixth addendum to the Maplewood Community Center operating agreement, extending the YMCA’s lease term from Jan. 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027, and clarifying how parties will respond to emergency capital needs during the extension.
Staff presented key changes, including new language to address emergency capital expenditures needed to protect life safety or structural integrity; the amendment clarifies a cooperative approach so both the city and YMCA share responsibility for urgent repairs, similar to how prior capital repairs were handled for a gym‑floor water incident.
City Manager Sable noted the city’s annual contribution to the YMCA (roughly $225,000–$240,000) is being applied this year to architecture and design services and therefore there is no separate capital fund available; the amendment provides the YMCA with greater certainty during the design period.
Next steps: staff will execute the sixth amendment and continue pre‑design work for long‑term options for the community center.
