Maplewood opens Heritage Award nominations and seeks one more commissioner; May meeting set for chair vote

The Maplewood Heritage Preservation Commission on March 10 opened nominations for its annual Heritage Award and discussed recruitment for a commissioner vacancy.
Joe, the city staff liaison, displayed the award nomination form and posted a link (maplewoodmn.gov/heritageaward), saying the commission will accept nominations through April 30 and expects to vote on nominees at the May meeting before presenting the winner at a City Council meeting, likely in June. A commissioner asked whether former Commissioner Koski could be nominated; staff said that is allowed and there is no multi‑year waiting period.
On membership, staff said the City Council received applications from residents interested in serving on local boards and commissions; one candidate with about 30 years’ residency will be invited to the May meeting for introductions and a questionnaire. Commissioners said they are recruiting for one more vacancy.
Staff reminded commissioners that at the May meeting they must vote annually on chair and vice-chair. The commission confirmed its next meeting for May 14 at 7 p.m. and adjourned.
