Resident says fugitive dust from Kronos Concrete coats homes, urges council action

Jadonta Smith, a District 3 resident, told the Budget, Finance and Audit standing committee during public comment that fugitive dust from the Kronos Concrete Concord facility at 3405 Gaylord is coating homes, vehicles and people’s lungs. "People are breathing in this fugitive dust," Smith said, adding that she submitted a descriptive video and a notarized sworn statement alleging an incident involving a man at a bus stop at Conant and McNichols.

Smith said the enforcement ticket related to that incident was dismissed through a consent agreement. She also said she feels the city is protecting the company, which she described as being "somewhat grandfathered in," and called on elected leaders to act to protect neighbors' health and property. "I reached out to his office. He refuses to meet with his constituent who he calls his bosses," she said, referring to Councilmember Scott Benson and later accusing his staff of telling local businesses not to work with her coalition.
